Richard John Carew Chartres was installed as the 132nd Bishop of London on 26th January 1996 at St Paul’s Cathedral. The Bishop of London is the third most senior bishop, after the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.
The Diocese of London is made up of five areas, four of which have an Area Bishop.

Since the birth of ALMA in July 1998, Bishop Michael Colclough has exercised the responsibility of chair of ALMA.
Michael was consecrated Bishop of Kensington (one of the Area Bishops in London) on 24 September 1996 at St Paul’s Cathedral. He retired from this post in February 2008 and is now Canon Pastor of St Paul’s Cathedral.
