(This is a letter from a class at the school to the ALMA Twinning Officer.)

We are writing to you to tell you about our school, Edward Betham Primary School, which is situated in London, Great Britain. Edward Betham Primary school is in Greenford, West London. Greenford is a very busy place with lots people and shops and it is part of the London Borough of Ealing.

Many children travel to Edward Betham by car or bus. However, in the last few years we have been involved in a walking campaign. Each month we have to tell our teachers the amount of days we walk to school. At the end of the month, a trophy is awarded to the class that has the most number of children walking.

Greenford is a very multicultural area in the London Borough of Ealing and it has many different religions. We are a Church of England Primary school but we have children from many faiths and some of none in our school. We like the mixture we are.  It is interesting and fun to be together.

Our school day starts at 8:50am where we line up in the school playground waiting for our teachers. Precisely at 9:00 we go to assembly in our hall where we say our morning prayer. “Heavenly father, you have given this new day to me, help me to make it one that pleases you by doing my best in everything. Amen”.

After assembly we normally have a literacy lesson for an hour. Break time follows for 15 minutes and then we go for our numeracy lessons. Lunchtimes are spent in the playground or quiet areas playing a range of games or chatting with our friends. We have many different types of equipment to play with like skipping ropes, frisbees, balls and cricket bats and stumps.  At 12:00pm our year 5 and 6 children go out for lunch; yr 3 and 4 children have their lunch at 12:30pm so that there is more space in our playground. Afternoons are spent doing other lessons like Science, Art, DT, History, Geography, PSHCE, ICT, P.E, R.E and Music. We finish school at 3:15pm.

After school, there is a wide variety of clubs that we can attend. All our clubs are really popular and sometimes hard to even get a place in them. An example of our clubs is:  netball, football, cookery and choir. The teachers really enjoy running these clubs and share their skills with us. We enjoy taking part and developing our own skills.

Children at Edward Betham enjoy learning and particular enjoy lessons that are interactive and fun. Our teachers plan a variety of activities to help us understand the objectives. The interactive whiteboards are great for helping us learn! We have attached a montage of pictures show you more about our school. We hope you like it. To find out more about our school, you might like to visit our website.

We are really keen and interested to communicate with children  at the Nacala school in Mozambique and we would like to know what they enjoy learning at school. We would love to share and talk to them about what life is like in Mozambique and what similarities and differences there are between our schools. We have really enjoyed raising money to help support ALMA this year and have understood that this money will go towards helping children of our age who do not have as much as we do. Children at Edward Betham completed different activities last term in order to raising over £1200 for ALMA. Events included sponsored skip, a World War 2 tea dance, competitions and selling of food. Everyone who was involved donated generously to the charity.

We know that Mrs. Kehely, our Headteacher has met with Ms. Burrell and they have talked about us being linked with Nacala school so we are now writing to you on behalf of all our pupils and staff and asking you to link us up as soon as you can!
