Meeting Report - 27 January 2010

[Source: Sheenagh Burrell]

37 of us gathered for the Reps meeting on 27 January and it was good to welcome several new ALMA Reps to their first meeting, as well as Canon Janice Price from Partners in World Mission who was visiting us. As ever we were very pushed for time but I know you would all want me to thank Helen Doery and Ann Clarridge for their excellent presentations and to thank Liz Crichton for such smooth technology – it was wonderful to see both pictures and videos in the presentation of Helen and Liz’s visit to Inhambane and to see more photos from Chihunzuine. We owe our thanks to this visit for the 2010 Lent Appeal picture. There is an excellent visit report from Helen.

Ann shared her teaching visit to Mechanelas where she led a Mothers’ Union conference on issues around stigma, grief, and loss, using five bible readings to set the context for each day’s practical sessions. Again there is a really great report of this visit.

It was good to be able to share information about the 2010 Lent Appeal Transforming Lives … ALMA’s Children and to distribute resources for your parishes. The card has replaced the three fold leaflet of previous years to enable people to be able to display the card on mantelpieces, quiet tables or in their bibles throughout Lent. The statistic that continues to astound me is the percentage of population under 18 - Angola: 48% Mozambique: 46% UK: 16.7%

The powerpoint I showed of the ALMA’s Children Chihunzuine Project from its inception in 2007 to the present, is now available to download, along with a report of another ALMA’s Children Project: Nacala School. Helen Van Koevering has sent reflections on Transformation from Niassa that may also be helpful during Lent. There is also an article by Helen in the latest USPG newsletter on the generation gap and the impact on ministry, which connects with Lent too.
