We have received the following message from Ramin Martinho, an Adeptos in the Diocese of Niassa: (For background information see the caj news report.)

Good evening brothers and sisters, I hereby greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I take this opportunity to inform you about the situation that our brothers in their communities of MEGAZA, CHIRE AND DERRE encounter. Many families have lost their property, their houses and farms.

The most affected areas are:

DERRE, Nathungu, Mugabo, Mecanga, Dramusse and Licoua. Data indicate that 500 families lost their property because of the flow of the Luala River; the local government took the most affected families to the camp and others to safer places.

MEGAZA administrative post: Megaza-sedde, Chipanga, Chuanga, Camanguira, Ndambuenda and Baina. The waters of the Chire River overflowed, flooding 275 machamba, leaving 305 families without homes.

CHIRE administrative post: Chilomo, Banqui, Chire-headquarters, Matamia, Reis and Mbilinga.1347 flooded machamba, 708 families displaced due to the flooding of the MTAMBI, LIAZI AND LUO river, the latter borders Chilomo with neighbouring Malawi country. Three people lost their lives in the Reis community when they were crossing the Mmudzi and Missongue river. Chire-thirst three people lost their lives when they were crossing the river where 2 women and 1 man one of the women was dragged went to the hospital to make an antenatal appointment.

We ask for your prayers for the affected families and for the orphans.
