Lent Update

Greetings from the Anglican Diocese in Angola.

Ambassador

Just to say that we had a blessed Lent period which started with the visit of the new Ambassador of the UK in Angola sister Pat. She was received on the First Sunday of Lent, 10 February 2008 at the parish of St Stephen in Luanda.

mission students

On 16 February we opened the new year for our Mission & Ministry Training program. This year we have 107 students, the main number are in the third year. The ceremony was held at Christ the King parish in Luanda. As you can remember this program has been granted by ALMA and the Revd. Dr. Arian Chatfield is the supervisor of that program. We believe that the training is equipping many people for ministry, and in near future we will have many ministers to proclaim the gospel in different zones of the country according with the church growth programme. Thanks to ALMA and the donors.

The Revd. Canon Dr. Chad Gandiya from USPG

Chad Gandiya

The Diocese was blessed with the visit of the person responsible for Africa and Indian Ocean from USPG, The Revd. Canon Dr. Chad Gandiya from 8 to 11 March 2008. During his visit we went to Uige and Mucaba where MANNA rehabilitated the health centre and the diocese is running the malaria programme. The Revd. Chad also met the students of the TEE (MMTP) and then visited Cunene a province which is facing great problem of the floods.

Students

USPG has done good work in training and equipping people in different areas. Recently two students finished their theological study in Porto Alegre. Now the MU worker Sister Kikala Isabel is doing woman development in Mindolo, Zambia and Maria Domingos went to the College of Transfiguration to study theology, both with grants from USPG.

“Alimento Seguro para vida” or Safe food for life

Safe food for Life

Finally, on 13 March, the diocese launched the project “Alimento Seguro para vida” or Safe food for life. This project was officially launched by the National Director for the National Institute for Fighting Against HIV/AIDS at the Christ the King parish is going to help those people living with HIV/AIDS by giving them food monthly. This project will also enable the infected people to be trained and capacity building in tailoring to help them doing something for their need. The woman called Olga in picture with the Bishop is leading a group living with AIDS as she is herself. They need to be helped in their situation as they accepted their status. The diocese is challenged to help them but we are also in need. Your help can be directed to them if some one decides to help.

Thank you for your prayer and support.
