Elizabeth Tucker, ALMA Rep St John’s Friern Barnet, and Robert Ashdown (ALMA Rep St Peter’s Fulham and MANNA Treasurer) have returned to Mozambique to join Bishop Dinis and his family as the life of Berta Sengulane is remembered in Zove - the scene of the accident and now a place of hope. Zove has become a community giving life and hope to many through the new church, school and Esperanca Berta Health Centre.

Elizabeth will visit the hospital here in Beira where she was treated ten years ago and also the hospital in Nhamatanda where she was first taken on route to Beira. She and Father Paul that will also travel to Chimoio. They will arrive in Zove on Thursday 27 November for the opening ceremony of the Mothers Union conference. The large memorial service will be on Saturday 29 November, and the closing ceremony of the Mothers Union conference will be on the Sunday morning service on 30 November. Robert’s trip will overlap in parts and he will be visiting Beira, Zove, Inhambane, Homoine, and Maputo.

Berta was a very special woman - do read the entry on her from the African Dictionary of Christian Biography. In testimony to her life and legacy ALMA has donated £1000 to the Esperanca Berta Health Centre in Zove.
