After the elections for the National Assembly of Angola, September 2008

Bishop André to the friends of the Anglican Diocese of Angola worldwide:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It is a great joy to have this opportunity to write to you and use this moment to announce and thank all of you who prayed so that God could help the Angolan people to have good elections.

God has answered our prayers and as a result, the elections were realized in a very peaceful atmosphere, with love, respect and acceptability of our differences, but also with conviction of building a new Angola full of joy.

We are at the moment of announcement of the results and MPLA is leading significantly with the majority of 81.65% of votes followed by UNITA with 10.35%. However, all the political parties have already accepted and recognized the results and congratulated MPLA for the victory, as well as the people who participated massively in the voting process without any violence.

Special thanks goes to ALMA for the active participation in praying for the election in Angola. As we are waiting for the formation of a new government and the parliament, let us continue praying so that God may help us in preserving the values of peace, reconciliation, democracy and solidarity in our country and society at large.

Thank you to all of you once again

Yours in Christ

+ André
