It was good to see so many of you, and also friends from MANNA at our ALMA REPS meeting on 15 February when we welcomed both Revd Helen Van Koevering from Niassa and Revd Domingos and Mrs Ana Baptista, newly arrived from Chimoio in Lebomo to visit St Luke’s and Christ Church Chelsea. I’m told there were 63 of us in total so very warm thanks to St Peter’s Notting Hill, Helen Doery and her team for hosting us in such splendid style.

28 Feb – 13 March Fairtrade Fortnight. In the last year, Fairtrade sales in the UK have tipped £1 billion for the first time ever! This is fantastic news, especially in these tough economic times. Millions of people are continuing to choose Fairtrade and provide a lifeline to farmers, workers and their families in the developing world. Harry’s Nuts and Liberation Nuts are fairtrade products from Mozambique and a good way of connecting ALMA and fairtrade –they’re also delicious! For more ideas on fairtrade fortnight and to find out about becoming a fairtrade church (and fairtrade diocese) see the Diocesan fairtrade website.

Only 9% of Luanda’s population of 5m has running water, a lower share than during the civil war. Across Angola, half the population of 18m has virtually no access to health care. The country has one of the world’s highest rates of infant mortality, and the only known cases of urban polio’
