The Lent Appeal 2010 poster
The 2010 Diocese of London Lent Appeal for ALMA is supporting ALMA’s Children.
Since 1999 the ALMA’s Children fund has enabled our partner dioceses in Angola, Lebombo and Niassa (in Mozambique) to respond to one of the greatest challenges they face: ministry to young people – when over 50% of the population is under the age of 18. ALMA’s Children has supported work with orphaned and vulnerable children, the building of schools and nurseries, and funding health centres and health education. London’s Lenten discipline in 2010 can play an important part in transforming the lives of even more children and also in contributing to the dynamic witness of our partners.
Online donations to the Lent Appeal are welcome (via the Justgiving site).
St Paul’s Knightsbridge have a novel way of increasing funds for their Lenten causes which they have rolled out on a larger scale this year. They have negotiated a £1 donation to the Diocesan Lent Appeal for every meal at the eleven Spaghetti House restaurants in central London (voucher required for each person). Download the voucher and read a little more on Spaghetti Sundays
All parishes in the Diocese of London should have received a set of materials including a gift aid envelope and a resources order form, sent by post in early January. Please contact us if more resources are needed.
Please do everything you can to encourage your parish to be part of the 2010 Lent Appeal.
The Bishop of London launched the Diocese of London's 2010 Lent Appeal at Old Ford Primary School in Tower Hamlets on 4 February. The Bishop met pupils at the school to talk to them about this year’s theme of transformation and to explain the importance of the appeal - see the full report on the Diocese of London site. The event was also reported in the East London Advertiser.
There is more information on the Diocese of London site.
