SS James and John Friern Barnet is linked with St George’s Church, Beira

1998	Parish decides to form a link with St George’s in Beira. Elizabeth Tucker joins the first visit to Mozambique by an ALMA group. She is badly injured in the car accident at Zove that kills Berta Sengulane.
2000	Fr Isaiah from St George’s Beira visits Friern Barnet. Bishop Dinis also visits St John’s. ALMA celebration service at St Paul’s. “Place of Hope” video about Zove distributed to London parishes. It was edited by Elizabeth and Leo Ugo from videos provided by Fr Isaiah.
From 2000	ALMA Sundays held each year, news items shared in the parish magazine, diocesan appeals supported. St George’s Beira, Mozambique and Angola included in prayer diary and intercessions. Contact with link parish via Chris Hemborough who works for Project Mozambique and lives in Beira.
From 2001	Music concerts held in aid of ALMA. Over £6000 has been raised (as of October 2007)
2005	John, David and Frances Philpott visit Beira and neigbouring country, including Zove, where there is now a church called St Mary’s, an Esperanca Berta Health Centre and an Esperanca Berta primary school.
2006	Chris Hemborough suggests to Fr Paul Walmsley-McLeod that the Esperanca Berta school could twin with St John’s primary school. Letters received from pupils in Zove, whose ages are very different from those at St John’s.
2007	A very good report on Zove is received from Father Isaiah. Bishop Dinis invites ElizabethTucker to be one of his commissaries in England and visits St John’s church in September during a short visit to London. ALMA charity breakfast held at St. John’s School.
2008	On Ash Wednesday Bishop Richard Chartres launches the 2008 Lent Appeal “Education for All” at St John’s Church and St John’s Primary School. Fr Paul spends the month of June in Maputo and Beira. Invitation from Father Isaiah to attend the 10th anniversary of Berta’s death in Zove, which Fr Paul and Elizabeth Tucker accept.
2009	In June Fr Isaiah Andrice visits Friern Barnet for four weeks to continue building the relationship and to take part in the parish Festival.
2010	Father Isaiah tragically suffers a heart attack during a Good Friday service on 2 April. Fr Paul attends his funeral on 7 April. Ian Sturt goes to Beira for the happier occasion of the induction of Fr Germano Manjate on Sunday 15 August.
2011	In October, Fr Germano Manjate comes to the UK for two weeks to take part in St John’s Centenary celebrations.
2012	Fr Germano Manjate dies in December with a funeral service at St Stephen and St Lawrence in Maputo.
2013	Induction of Fr. Mateus Campira (formerly Macia in Limpopo) in early February.
