At St John’s Church, Waterloo, on Saturday 16 September
The earliest record of a donation from Britain to the work of the Anglican Church in Mozambique has been traced back to 1906 – hence the decision by the Mozambique and Angola Anglican Association (MANNA) to celebrate its centenary this year.
MANNA hosted a wonderful day of celebration. St John’s Church was full of well-wishers from all over the country, including many ALMA supporters from London parishes, and representatives from sister churches in continental Europe that support the Anglican Church in Angola and Mozambique. In the picture, Bishop Claes-Bertil Ytterberg (centre) and Dean Ola Söderberg (on right) are from the Diocese of Vasteras, Church of Sweden.
It was especially wonderful to have Bishops Dinis, Mark and André all together and the Concelebrated Eucharist was very special, with all the congregation coming forward to make their offering in baskets held by servers at the altar rail.
The Eucharist was followed by a buffet lunch and this was a good opportunity for people to mingle and talk with one another. In the afternoon, Bishops André, Mark and Dinis each spoke and answered questions and there was plenty of time afterwards for people to go and speak with them individually.
The cutting of the MANNA centenary cake was a special moment of celebration and everyone present enjoyed a piece before leaving.
ALMA thanks MANNA for this splendid occasion and wishes it well for its next one hundred years of support and service to the Anglican Communion in Mozambique and Angola.
MANNA has produced two extra magazines to mark its centenary year.
