The first weekend in September is observed as Provincial Youth weekend in Lebombo. There were various events which brought together young people from all the six archdeaconries/districts to the Church of the Good Samaritan in the suburbs of Maputo.
This happened on 1 and 2 September.
The Mothers’ Union held its annual conference at the Cathedral in Maciene, from 19 to 23 September. About 300 women came from all the six Archdeaconries/Districts.
In addition to the usual reports from each Districts and the financial report, the President, Leonor Zacarias gave a general picture of the life of the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese and the Diocesan Worker Dulce Chiponde gave an account of the recent gathering of women in Sweden where she travelled with Bibiana Dava from Beira.
The leadership of the Mothers’ Union headed by Leonor, having completed their second term, was replaced and Joana Chilengue was elected by 197 people of the 268 entitled to vote on the occasion.
It was a celebratory /festival event which included teaching on child registration, continuing from the previous year, issues related to our death and Christian witness and the history of our calling as a Church. Joy, order and spirituality characterized the environment of the gathering at Maciene which happened as a result of the generosity of individuals and groups since for the last three years financial support from Mary Summer House has not been forthcoming.
