London’s first ever Lent Appeal raised £128,000 for distribution as grants.

The Appeal was a response by the diocese to the worsening HIV/AIDS crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, with Mozambique and Angola being no exceptions.

£39,000 was sent to each of our three link dioceses. They each put a heavy emphasis on prevention programmes, through education for young people and vulnerable adults.

£10,000 was sent to Kubatsirana.

The Appeal also sought to raise awareness in London’s churches, both of the extent of the crisis and its link with poverty. A booklet of helpful notes was produced for Clergy and Parishes, which included an AIDS Poverty Tree diagram.
